The Children’s Rights Alliance welcomes the establishment of the Forum on Patronage and Pluralism and the opportunity to contribute our views for its consideration. In undertaking this review, the Alliance wishes to remind the Minister for Education of his duty to uphold the rights conferred upon all children in Ireland under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which Ireland ratified in 1992. In particular, we draw attention to Article 14 ‘Freedom of thought, conscience and religion’, Article 28 ‘Education’ and Article 29 ‘Aims of Education’; each article is quoted in full in the appendix to this letter.
