Press Statement by

Senator Jillian van Turnhout,

Chief Executive, Children’s Rights Alliance

“Today has been a great day for Irish politics – and for women – with the announcement tonight that Women for Election has been named by the Social Entrepreneurs Ireland (SEI) Social Impact Programme as one of its three ‘impact’ awardees.  The announcement was made by An Taoiseach, Mr Enda Kenny TD, at an awards ceremony in The Exchange, Dublin this evening.  Women for Election were successful following a gruelling and intense 8-month selection process by Social Entrepreneurs Ireland.

Niamh Gallagher, Research and Policy Analyst with the Children’s Rights Alliance, is a co-founder of Women for Election, a non‐partisan organisation committed to political transformation, with a vision of an Ireland with balanced participation of women and men in political life.  On behalf of Niamh’s colleagues in the Alliance, I would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Niamh on this exciting and much coveted award.  We are immensely proud of Niamh’s commitment to this project and her passion for this cause – to see women make up 40% of elected representation by 2021 in Ireland.

As the Alliance’s Research and Policy Analyst, we benefit greatly from Niamh’s skills and experience.  Her energy and intelligence are a force to be reckoned with and I have no doubt in my mind that Niamh’s steady and creative steer, together with her co-founder Michelle O’Donnell Keating, will see Women for Election going from strength to strength and deliver a political transformation that will secure a fairer, more inclusive Ireland.  We wish them all the best in the future and look forward to watching the progress of Women for Election.”
